The Scandinavian International Film Festival, considered as the high-level culture event in Helsinki-Finland, closed its curtains last night with Mohsen Makhmalbaf's film "Marghe and Her Mother" as the big winner, taking two of the main awards.

The top prize of the festival for the best feature film went to the Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf.

The young talent Ylenia Galtieri, who plays the role of the mother, also received the best actress award of the festival for her debut outstanding performance in the film Marghe and her Mother.

This year official section of the festival focused on those films that dealt widely with the phenomena that deeply affect humanity.

The film "Marghe and Her Mother" tells the story of a young mother, in southern Italy, who is forced to leave her six-year-old daughter behind while she goes in search of a job and the possibility of a better life.

"With a moral link to Italian neorealism, Makhmalbaf's empathetic lens continues its exploration of poverty and social issues through the eyes of a hilariously insolent girl, who shatters the illusion of love, religion and human dignity."

Every year the festival exhibits its official selection during its five days event at the end of August, while also creating an all year long special screening events across Finland.

The European premiere of Marghe and Her Mother started from Locarno International Film Festival earlier this month. At the same time, the film continued its Asian tour by taking part in the Gala section of 44th Hong Kong International Film Festival.
