The 53rd WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, one of the oldest independent film festival in United States, has awarded its Golden Remi Prize for the best foreign film to the Iranian master director Mohsen Makhmalbaf for his latest film Marghe and her Mother.

The film "Marghe and her Mother", shot in southern Italy, narrates the story of a young mother who is forced to leave her six-year-old daughter behind while she goes in search of a job and the possibility of a better life.

Margherita Pantaleo, who plays the role of Marghe - the six years daughter in the film, was also amongst the nominees to receive the best acting award, as one of the youngest talents in the competition, for her outstanding performance.

Mohsen Makhmalbaf's latest film "Marghe and her Mother" began its worldwide tour at the end of last year at Busan International film festival in South Korea. It then went on screen at other festival like Vancouver in Canada, the Bosphorus in Turkey, Sao Paulo in Brazil... following its screening as the closing film of IFFI Goa in India; due to the golobal pendemic, the film encountered a short disruption to its international tour.
Now after a few months, Marghe and her Mother has successfully restarted its journey across the world and is set to be screened in a number of international film festivals in the coming weeks.
